As the year draws to a close we like to look back and pick one location that, to us, really encapsulates our travel vibe for the year. And this year we have selected Tulum, Mexico! This beautiful town located on the Caribbean coast of Mexico is a paradise in every way you can think of.
No matter what type of traveler you are; be it someone who likes to seek out adventure, someone who adores lounging under the sun with a cocktail in your hand, or maybe you want to soak up the culture and history of the ancient world. Tulum has it all in spades. Which is why it is our top travel pick of 2024!
Today we will be highlighting some of our favorite activities and locales to visit while you’re in Tulum. Alongside that we will be offering you some tips and tricks regarding accommodation and how to turn your trip into a luxury experience without breaking the bank!
The Beaches
Perhaps the biggest draw of Tulum is the myriad of beautiful beaches! Sun, sand, and clear blue seas. What more could you ask for? Playas Runias is my favorite beach in Tulum. It is a beautiful strip of beach that is overlooked by the ruins of an ancient walled Mayan city. The beach itself isn’t the biggest but is well worth checking out.
Playa Pescadores is one of the beaches you will have likely seen a lot of pictures of in relation to Tulum. Due to the swarms of red and white fishing boats that rest in the water and along the golden sands. This is a lively location that is ideal for relaxing and a more lively day at the beach.
Mirador Beach is where you will find one of the most stunning panoramic views in all of Tulum. Don’t expect any beach service here. Instead you will be treated to a classic relaxing beach experience. With the turquoise sea lapping against the sand as you soak up the view.
Villa Life
There are many amazing hotels in Tulum. But, if you really want to have a luxury holiday experience, then I highly recommend hiring a villa. Tulum is home to a huge range of stunning villas that come with a huge range of amenities. Home gyms, swimming pools, private garages, private beaches.
If you can afford it then I recommend hiring private chefs for your stay in Tulum. Rather than having to fight for restaurant reservations or trying to find the best dining spots you can have the amazing tastes of Mexico cooked for you. With a menu designed to your specific tastes and needs. You will truly be living like a king.
Villas are a great choice for big group holidays. Especially bachelorette parties. Along with private chefs you can hire entertainers, photographers, and even private event coordinators to help you plan out your entire stay. So that you can make the most out of your trip.
The Vibrant Nightlife
Tulum features a lively nightlife that you would be foolish not to experience while there. We should warn you now that most of the clubs and bars will only accept local currency. And in cash. The places that do accept cards tend to add a hefty surcharge.
Tulum’s nightlife is quite unique in that the most popular spots take turns hosting parties. So you will have a different place to let your hair down every day of the week. The weekends are, naturally, the best nights to party. On Saturday you will want to head over to Papaya Playa Project and on Sunday the party is held at the La Zebra Hotel.
Historical Sites Of Interest
Partying and picturesque beaches isn’t all that Tulum has to offer. History lovers will be in their element here. With a number of fascinating historical sites that allow you to step back through time.
The Tulum ruins are the primary historical site. These encapsulate much of what was once the town of Tulum. You enter in through the walls and are greeted by a myriad of ruins across sloping hills. We recommend going on one of the guided tours so you can get a more in-depth history of this fascinating town.
The Coba Ruins are one of the most interesting and significant historical sites in Tulum. This Mayan pyramid is surrounded by a network of white roads that all lead back to the site. While it might look similar to Chichen Itza it differs in the fact that Coba is actually a collection of historic sites that all link to the main structure.
